The University of Applied Sciences in Racibórz once again joins the nationwide programme “National Academic Team”, whose aim is to provide real support for students actively pursuing their sports careers. The 6th edition of the project enables the university to obtain funding for organising additional, individually tailored classes, allowing student-athletes to continue their studies without having to give up intensive training or participation in competitions.
Classes are organised within the individual study arrangements programme and cover the entire calendar year. This allows the educational process to be precisely adapted to each participant’s training schedule.
“We are launching another edition of the project in which the University of Applied Sciences in Racibórz is once again participating with full commitment. The previous results confirm that this initiative genuinely strengthens the opportunities for our student-athletes. In this year’s edition, support is provided to the students of the Physical Education faculty who consistently combine education with a demanding sports career,” – emphasises Andrzej Samołyk, PhD, the coordinator of the National Academic Team project at the University of Applied Sciences in Racibórz. “I hope that interest in this dual-track model of study will continue to grow in the coming years,” he adds.
Why is such support needed?
Student-athletes face schedules that often make traditional participation in classes impossible. Training, preparation camps and national or international competitions frequently collide with academic duties. As a result, students may be forced to take a break from their studies or even abandon education.
The National Academic Team programme addresses these challenges by creating conditions in which an athlete does not have to choose between a sports career and education.
How does the programme work?
The university receives funding to organise additional teaching hours for students who meet the programme’s criteria. Classes and consultations may be conducted up to the defence of the diploma thesis.
The programme covers students enrolled in one field of study (excluding those studying two programmes simultaneously) who continue an active sports career.
The funds allocated for the implementation of the project come from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, enabling the university to tailor the educational process to the individual needs of athletes and support their educational and professional development.
